Rashmi Rai
As an aspiring art photographer I am especially fascinated by arranged still life and macro photography. Inspired by nature, light and its effects on emotions, I seek to depict the unseen elements in what seems to constitute the real in our everyday life and the wonder and awe of nature through the macro lens. My compositions are simple.
In some of my images I like to depict the object, be it flower or any found object, with a symbolic meaning, like a dead leaf representing previous generations or old thoughts or life’s fragility as compared to nature, with its surrealistic aspects. While some images are deliberately composed spending a lot of time on the arrangements, the concept may be based on just some fleeting thoughts in a moment. Some are pure photographs with the light dictating the compositions intent, either for its scenic attributes or for its calming effects.
I draw inspiration from the 16th and 17th century Dutch and Italian masters of still life and early masters in landscape photography.
Background
My introduction to dslr photography was in 2010 after which i joined Treveni Kala Sangam for a diploma in advanced photography to learn in depth about this art. After training further at Munish Khanna Academy I started with my independent practice as freelance and art photographer. Currently I am working with Canon 5D mark III. One of my favorite lens is canon MP E-65mm for extreme close ups. Being an art photographer I believe in the freedom of expression and often use editing software to enhance my work.
